It works and it makes you feel good! Acupuncture has been shown in scientific studies to be effective for treating many conditions, which can be found here. The real evidence, however, comes in the clinic when patient symptoms and conditions improve! Acupuncture is effective both on its own, and also as a wonderful complement to Western Medicine.

Generally speaking, acupuncture should be a painless procedure. While sensitivity varies between patients, most people only feel a slight sensation while the needles are being inserted. Sometimes people feel a sensation of heaviness, tingling, or pressure around the needles. These are all considered normal responses. If any needles feel sharp or uncomfortable during your treatment, please don’t be shy…let us know!

This depends on the nature of your condition, the severity, and the length of time you have had the condition. Most people come one time per week, although for very severe or long-standing conditions, you may consider coming twice a week until symptoms start to improve, then decrease to once a week.

Please make sure you eat something before you come in for treatment. Wear comfortable clothes that give access to your knees, elbows, and abdomen, as these areas are commonly needled.

Your first visit will last approximately an hour and a half, sometimes up to two hours, depending on the complexity of your case. After completing your initial paperwork, we will talk for about 30 minutes to get details about your current complaint and also to get an idea about your health history. Once the needles are inserted and you will rest comfortably for approximately 30 minutes. After removal of the needles, additional techniques may be used, depending on your complaint.

After a treatment, most people feel very relaxed, while others feel energized. If possible, it is best not to schedule any vigorous activity on the day of your treatment. It is better to take things easy for the rest of the day. If you feel very tired or lightheaded after your treatment, please let us know right away.

Herbal therapy is often an integral component to the healing process. Please be sure to let us know about any allergies so we don’t give you anything that may cause a reaction. For more information on herbal therapy, click here.
